It s easiest to work with primer in spray paint form when it comes to a ceiling fan.

When the blade s top side is almost dry turn it over to paint the underside.
Once it s ready to go spray the blades and or hardware pieces with a thin even coat.
You could use generic liquid primer but this stuff is much less messy and goes on easier and more evenly.
It can get a little tricky painting them because they move.
When you spray you want to spray 6 to 8 inches away from the surface and work in a side to side motion across the blade so you get an even coat.
Paint a thin coat of primer.

Allow them to air dry.
Now we are going to paint all of the fan s hardware.
Then you can spray paint without getting it everywhere.
You can remove the fan from the ceiling and take it outside to spray paint or you can do what i did.
Apply several thin coasts allowing each coat to dry before applying the next coat.
Once you ve completely finished painting your fan take a moment and let it dry.

Make sure to keep the paint out of the motor.
You should re assemble the fan unit only when the fan blades have completely dried.
